I am always reminded of that saying about a shoemaker's children always going barefoot. Despite the enjoyment I get making cards, my family is rarely gifted with these creations. Birthdays and holidays are often filled with presents and treats, but hardly ever accompanied by cards! I can't bring myself to actually buy a card when they are so fun to make, and so much cuter (and cheaper!). However it always seems to be the last thing on my list.
For Valentine's Day, I wanted to make sure my family got cards (for a change). It was also the perfect excuse to get out the Silhouette cutter and try out some of my new shapes. One of my fave designers, Miss Kate Cuttables, offers a free shape of the day. There are cute seasonal theme shapes, basics like borders and more. I check almost every day to see what is offered, and download more often than not. Since these are free for personal use, what better persons to use them on than my family? (Miss Kate also offers commercial licensing if you want to order some cards from me with her designs.)
Two of the shapes I used were FREE, one was on sale for $0.35. Yes, you read that right. Less than the cost of a cup of coffee...I digress. And now $3.50 is less than some cups of coffee.
I also picked up a fun font from a great font site:1001 Fonts. I love how it is organized into categories, and also that you can filter by free licensing (personal vs. commercial use).
Thus, I put together these babies for a mere thirty-five cents plus some on-hand card stock and adhesive:
Operation "Don't Neglect Family" successfully achieved!
