This Is Not Your Granny's Square

Facebook has gotten me again. Lion Brand Yarn posted a link to a free pattern for this afghan. It is worked in "granny squares", but has a mod look that I love love love!

Of course I knew immediately I needed to make it to go with my new living room couches. I mean, I like the Spider-Man fleece blanket we have as well as the next gal. But this would look amazing!

So, as fate would have it, the Vanna's Choice yarn was on sale at Michael's, plus I had an extra 15% off coupon in my e-mail. So despite a litany of current UFOs (UnFinished Objects), I rushed off to Michael's and snatched up the yarn. I was so psyched to start, and then I counted--I have to make over 100 pieces! Then sew them together! What was I thinking?!

Expect this to be a work-in-public for a while. You will probably see it at dance class, playgrounds, etc. At least the squares are portable. And I am hoping to finish it well in time to enjoy before the new couches need replacing.

If you want to crochet-along, here is the link to the pattern:
